DESCRIPTION:The San Augustine town square will be bursting with fun, food and activities for the whole family April 11 and 12. The Heritage Festival celebrates the rich history of this quaint Texas town that began before Texas became a country in 1836.\nFriday April 11 will feature street vendors and sidewalk sales. A surprise Friday evening activity is to be announced. The full festival is Saturday April 12 from 10 am to 5 pm. Arts and Crafts vendors, food trucks, children’s activities, live entertainment and local tours are just some of the attractions. \nStart your festival day at 8 am at the Chamber of Commerce Log Cabin by participating in the Wild Walk/Run, followed by a pancake breakfast at Hardware on the Square. \nLive entertainment will be available all day at the Pavilion on the square. Music, Cloggers, Square Dancers and historic reenactments are just some of the featured entertainment. We will also have a celebration of our treasured oldest seasoned citizens.\nFor the kids, we will have a petting zoo, the barrel ride, a scavenger hunt, active games and more.\nThe car show is shaping up to be one of the best ever. Take a bus tour of some of our oldest churches. Ride in a horse-drawn carriage. Take a walking tour of San Augustine’s unique “Windows into History” displays in the buildings around the square. Be sure to enjoy the mixed media art show in the courthouse.\nWhile on the square be sure and visit the renovated 1919 Jail which houses the Law Enforcement Museum. Journey back to the times the Texas Rangers came to “clean up” San Augustine. Also be sure to visit the historic Stripling Building, which was a pharmacy for over 70 years and has a fascinating indoor water well. This building has been transformed into a delightful museum displaying the history of San Augustine.
